We arrived in Sun City on March 26, which is northwest of Phoenix. This was our first time at staying in a retirement type RV resort in the Phoenix area. The resort had about 900 sites, which 3/4 was occupied by park models. Many of them for sale and/or being rented. In between the park models there were RV sites. We had a great site in the pet area of the park measuring 38 x 55. Great room for motorhome, trailer and explorer.
We enjoyed walking around the park and meeting the sunbirds from all over the country. We received the recreation schedule for the month of March, which was about 10 pages long. Around the recreation area in the mornings, there were people in the fitness rooms, playing lawn bowling, shuffleboard, horse shoes, pickle ball, tennis, water aerobics, etc. In the afternoons they were swimming, playing cards in three different rooms, working in the wood shop, the painting area, the ceramics room, etc. They also scheduled entertainment, bike rides, golf, shopping trips, overnight trips, casino runs, etc. So much too do, but for the most part we were there to visit with friends around the area.
The day after we arrived, I did notice they had a motorcycle trip scheduled so Craig did enjoy going on an all day ride to Sedona, Jerome, Prescott and Cottonwood. They travelled about 280 miles from 9 am to 4:30ish. They did not stop and take many pictures but below is the St. Joseph shrine that was damaged during the Yarnell fire that happened last June where 19 people lost their lives. We will be staying the the Cottonwood area for about a week so we'll take pictures of these other areas as we visit them.
We also loved walking around the park and seeing all the cactus that were just starting to bloom and different yard decorations then we see in Washington/Oregon.
We had great visits with those that I worked with in WA that either retired here and or moved here for work and an old neighbor. I went into the two offices in Phoenix to visit as well - making it to the Tempe OC and Gateway where they have the ILR and Express operations. It was great to see so many, but I missed seeing many as well. Can you imagine that they were busy in training classes, projects, etc?! So much going on for them. This confirmed that I do miss the people, but definitely not the work schedules.
On April 3 we left Phoenix and drove up to Cottonwood, AZ. The area is higher elevation, about 3200 elevation, so cooler nights and a little cooler days. Averaging about 37-45 lows with about 70 as a high. Next week it should be getting back into the 80s.
