Big Island - Kona

We used our timeshare at Sea Village in Kona, visiting the Big Island for the first time.  We left Yuma on Feb. 26, stayed overnight in Phoenix and then flew to Kona on Feb. 27, staying for a week and then returning back to Phoenix on March 6.

It was a very busy week with so much to see.

The first full day there we drove down south and saw the following sites.

Royal Grounds to include the mausoleum

Painted Church:

The next day we drove up to the North Shore.
Lapakahi State Historical Park

King Kamehameha I Statue in Kapa'Au
End of the North road - Pololu Valley Lookout

The timeshare was only about 1 mile south of Kona, so we were able to walk up town and look around all the shops, especially enjoying some of the great art galleries.

The next day we drove across the island to Hilo and then drove around the south part of the island, and then back to Kona.  We stopped at quite a few places to include:

Big Island Candies - our favorite cookies from Hawaii:

Liliu'okalpi Gardens:

Then onto the Akatsuka Orchid Gardens - this place was huge and a fun place to visit:

Then onto the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park:

Then to Black Sand Beach:

We then drove to the end of the road on the South Point, and checked out the parking lot to Green Beach, one of only two in the world.  We decided since it was so windy not to make the walk as we would be seeing it on our helicopter ride.

On Sunday, we actually stayed at the timeshare and enjoyed some sun.

On Monday, we met two of Sharon's co-workers for lunch, as they flew in from Oahu, and then we went on a sunset helicopter ride, circling the entire island, which took two hours.

Green Sand Beach

Then back to Yuma for the rest of March.
